Andrew Holness of the Jamaia Labour Party defeated Mark Golding of the People’s National Party in September but his victory in his own constituency bewildered some, no, many as to the strangeness of the announcement of his victory. Every vote of the final box of many votes was declared for him.
All the votes were his and none for his challenger who was leading him handily for the longest while. Strange. But he won the seat. Mark Golding had the biggest victory of the night. He won almost 90% of the vote in his constituency. What a feat. He was that popular.
No matter who you voted for, Andrew won and Mark lost that night and Andrew is 1 PM and Mark is the opposition despite winning three of three debates, well, the P.N.P. did, and Mark has to regroup with the P.N.P. in the political wilderness, a fate which was reversed for eighteen years until Bruce Golding broke the drought for Labour in 2007.
